N.L. Batra has been closely associated with monuments in India for well over four decades. His years of in-depth research have been of immense value in understanding the architecture and construction of heritage monuments, particularly those of the Mughal period. He has studied these jewels of Indian architecture from close quarters. His books on heritage conservation, preservation and restoration of monuments including Jama Masjid: Call of the Soul have received fulsome praise from scholars and historians alike. A civil engineer with an AMIE degree, N.L. Batra is a faculty member with numerous institutions connected with monuments, their conservation and preservation. He retired as Superintending Engineer from the Archaeological Survey of India.
